Weeels is the first venture conceived by the Social Transit Research Lab, or StarLab, a non-profit organization devoted to promoting social road transit and maximizing person miles per gallon.

Social Road Transit is a new model for utilizing cars and roads, a potential public transit solution for many American cities.
Social road transit asks drivers to cooperate to build their own public transportation networks — building solutions to transit problems based on existing technologies and infrastructures, rather than simply building new ones.
Person Miles Per Gallon
We need to measure the efficiency of services, not of vehicles. It’s simple math: say you have a car getting 40 miles per gallon. Carrying one person, that car is getting 40 person miles per gallon. But carrying three people, that car gets 120 person miles to the gallon.
It’s not cars that are inefficient, it’s the way we use cars that’s inefficient. Weeels and StarLab hope to provide tools so we can all use cars more efficiently.
